Photo shoot with Brian Maier

I first saw this beautiful furry man at the Pride Pitbull! party here in Vancouver.  He had his shirt off and I knew I wouldn't be happy until I had the chance to photograph him.  I asked one of the guys that came in with him (a former model of mine), "Who's that?" and they told me it was dj Brian Maier from San Francisco (the ruff poster boy) who was going to be spinning at the ruff Pride party.  I was thrilled -- this made 2 events that I could photograph him at as I was contracted to shoot both.  I introduced myself and he was just as sweet as he is good looking.  I said that if he could find the time, I would love to do a studio shoot with him.  Fortunately, he made time for me.  Here's the results.  And for what it's worth, I can't wait to work with him again, I am now a lifelong admirer of this talented, gorgeous man.

Photo shoot with Robert Jonas - Harlem Studio 2002

Several images from an old but classic photo shoot with my friend, neighbor, and an incredibly sexy man, Robert Jonas, at his apartment on St. Nicholas Terrace in Harlem, NYC in 2002.  It was a playful session with Robert, the bathtub and Mr. Bubble.  And no, in the last shot, you are not seeing things -- it was HUGE!  By far, the biggest rubber duck I've ever seen.

 

When Life Imitates Art

It tends to be somewhate unusual but always interesting when life imitates art.

Without being asked to take this pose, my model, kuba, positioned himself in what I instantly recognized as the model's pose from the 'young male nude' by hippolyte flandrin but I doubt it was kuba's intention to recreate this classic painting. A wonderful coincidence and an equally beautiful image.

The painting and more particularly the pose of the young man has become an icon of homoeroticism. To see the original, simply scroll your mouse over the photo.

Pride in Art Exhibition 2013

I am very pleased to finally have the opportunity to show some of my photography here in Vancouver.  One (and possibly two) of my 'abstract nudes' series has been selected for inclusion in this year's Queer Arts Festival presented by Pride in Art. The exhibition at The Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre will run from Wednesday, July 24 to Friday, August 9, 2013.  For hours and more information, check out their Facebook page.

favorite hunks & other things

Liv Lethal Owns The Chair

I took quite a departure with my new series, The Chair, this evening and photographed an absolutely gorgeous woman, the first in the series and one of a handful that I've photographed nude in my entire career. I'm delighted with the images, in fact, there were so many great shots it was difficult to select which ones to showcase. I also had so much fun working with this lovely lady that I'm going to look for other projects so that I can work with Liv Lethal again.  I'm one happy photographer!

Out and Out Exhibition at ChimMaya Gallery, LA

Thrilled to announce that four of my photos will be on display and for sale as part of the Out and Out exhibition at the ChimMaya Gallery in East Los Angeles.  The gallery's curator, Steven Acevedo contacted me to include the infamous image, busted, in this year's show and by the time we had finished negotiations he had selected another three that will be shown together, in effect a jackson photografix triptych featuring Vancouver models Kevin Ayton and Silver Burla.  The exhibition open June 2 and runs until July 6, 2013.  I encourage those living in the greater LA area to take in the show as it has several renowned artists participating including Esau Andrade who I know from Mexico.

Favorite Hunks and Other Things

It is becoming a little freaky that the universe is really conspiring to drive home its point and endorse my decision to return to photography as my primary source of income. Not only have I been selling work this week but I just received this wonderful email from blogger/writer Trevor Biggs:

"Like everyone these days it seems I run a blog. My Blog Favorite Hunks & Other things has been up for about 4 years and gets over 25,000 hits a day. As someone who at one time wanted to be a photographer (until real life kicked in) my blog has a focus on talent, not just beauty. I often profile photographers as well as models. When I see a shot I love, I am often most interested in the artist behind the lens. The blog works close with several photographers, agents, producers and a couple of actors. I am also a writer and currently act as Features Editor for photographer Dylan Rosser's online magazine tMf (the male form).

The blog is mostly a photographer/model showcase. I only post an artists work with their support. I do not want to be one of those bloggers who uses an artists work without permission and only do profiles with direct cooperation from the artist. Needless to say we are proceeding with a feature for his blog, which I will post once it appears online.
